WHO warns of rising cases of a dangerous superbug

Microbiologists are warning there could be thousands of cases of an almost untreatable superbug infection every year in New Zealand if action isn’t taken immediately. “Globally we are using antibiotics pretty indiscriminately and we are not controlling infection and preventing infection as well as we should do,” says Elizabeth Tayler from the World Health Organisation. “The bugs are fighting back and really having a field day and increasingly becoming resistant and difficult to treat.”
