Norwester – Winds of Contrasts

Born far out in the Tasman Sea, the Norwester assaults New Zealand with torrential rain, snow and hail, and searing heat. In the path of the onslaught, nothing is spared.

Produced by NHNZ

A unique insight into the effect wind has on the environment. The Wild South team follows the progress of a full Norwest wind across the South Island of New Zealand. Starting with a fine day the programme shows the development of a depression in the lower Tasman Sea and its subsequent effects on the terrain and wildlife as the storm approaches the West Coast, crosses the mountains and blows across the plains out to sea.
