From waste to wonder
Adrienne and Robert Scott of Reclaimed Timber Traders (RTT) in Palmerston North lead a team pioneering a sustainable business model that not only repurposes our precious timber resource but also provides employment opportunities and a sense of purpose for those who are disadvantaged or struggle to find a role in the system.
Using careful processes, waste wood is reclaimed, deconstructed, sorted and refurbished to useful timber and timber products. Treated timbers are repurposed and used above ground, avoiding the leaching of poisonous chemicals into our soils and waterways. Scarce native timbers are available to be used for furniture making and traditional carving.
RTT is the business arm of a charitable trust, Human Aid Focus New Zealand, and it works in partnership with other community and social enterprise organisations locally, nationally and internationally.
