The capital boasts mountain biking experiences as compelling as its coffee—many of them within pedalling distance from the city centre.

1. Skyline Walkway

You can journey the entire Skyline Walkway by bike, taking in panoramic views of Wellington harbour and the Remutaka, Tararua and Ōrongorongo Ranges.

2. Mt Victoria

Only a stone’s throw from downtown Wellington, Mt Victoria has some 19 cycle trails of varying difficulty levels, so everyone can experience the city by bike.

3. Polhill Reserve/Brooklyn Wind Turbine/Te Kopahou Reserve

To the southwest of Wellington’s CBD, this area is packed with trails to choose from, including winding 4WD roads and the thriving Te Kopahou Reserve.

4. Mystic Portal

Keen adrenaline seekers will find a challenging trail in Mystic Portal. At the top of Connaught Terrace in Brooklyn, the downhill trail is classified as Double Black Diamond and a big air jump track.

5. Mākara Peak Mountain Bike Park

Cyclists from around the country and abroad come to try their hand at the some 40 kilometres of tracks at this top quality mountain bike park.
