UPDATE FOR PRINT SUBSCRIBERS

Dear Subscriber

Like most of you, the NZGeo team is hunkered down in home offices around the country, working over cloud-based services to create what we hope will be one of our most innovative and compelling issues ever. Like many of you, we are set up in bedrooms, balancing child-care, conducting meetings online and taking walks at every opportunity. Like all of you, we're confronting our 'new normal'.

Our business is different in the new environment. Advertising has winnowed, and yet traffic to our website has doubled. We've launched two new products—Great Reads and Together at Home, detailed below. We are confident, and working hard to deliver as much value as possible to Kiwis during this period, wherever they are.

We have received calls from a number of subscribers concerned that New Zealand Geographic will go the way of the Bauer titles (The Listener, North & South, Woman's Day, Women's Weekly) which announced their closure last week. I would like to assure you the New Zealand Geographic is in good shape, and we will continue publishing. You can have total confidence that your subscription is a robust investment. Indeed it is New Zealand Geographic's subscription base that puts us in such a stable financial position.

Like many businesses we have to adhere to new restrictions but this does not affect New Zealand Geographic’s ability to gather news or publish on NZGeo.com. Likewise, the publication and distribution of the May/June issue of New Zealand Geographic is outside of the Alert Level 4 lock-down period currently being enforced. There will likely be some sort of restrictions in place at the time of publication, but we are confident they will not have a bearing on our print and distribution operations which are through essential business networks exclusively.

New Zealand Geographic is one of the leanest, most innovative publishers in the country, and as a small family company without debt and with a diverse mix of income, we're in excellent shape to weather the storm. We would like to thank you for your ongoing support at this challenging time, and your patience as we find the best way to deliver your next issue.

If you would like to check on the status of your subscription, please click here.

If you have any questions, get in touch with Tosh on subs@nzgeographic.co.nz. She is also working from home and balancing childcare, and will come back to you as she is able.

Draw your families close at this time, reach out (virtually) to neighbours and friends, be kind and be strong. He waka eke noa.

Together at Home

Here we are—a nation of parents, grandparents and children all in the same boat, together at home. He waka eke noa. Every day of the lock-down we will post a story or video that can be shared among your family. Here are the first few, and with them some talking points to fill our days at home together.
