The largest and highest-quality collection
of local digital content available to your library through EPIC.

If we have learned anything from 2020, it is the value of trustworthy, high-quality, connected digital content. If it is local in nature, then it is especially relevant. If it works on all devices, without pesky passwords or plugins, all the better...

For three decades New Zealand Geographic has provided unprecedented coverage of our environment and society—stories that are as relevant and important now as the day they were penned. Likewise, Natural History New Zealand (NHNZ, formerly TVNZ's Natural History Unit) has produced world-leading video content for forty years. Both huge archives are available for libraries as annual EPIC subscription options.

Isn't the National Library is paying this year?

Why yes it is... but it depends who you are, and what your digital strategy is.

As part of a Covid-19 relief package, non-government libraries will have their existing EPIC subscription package paid through to June 2022. Some libraries will want to bank this saving, others will see it as an opportunity to deliver a little more value to their constituents by subscribing to an additional product or two to enhance digital offerings in this age of Covid and working-from-home.

It is worth noting that purchasing two products from the NZGeo collection attracts a 20% discount, 25% for three. And as the National Library is funding the full non-discounted value of existing products, your library will pay just 80% (or 75%) of the value of one product and receive two (or three) under the scheme.

New Zealand Geographic also offers perpetual licenses as an option for those institutions that have easier access to capex funds than opex.

Contact NZGeo Publisher James Frankham for more information at publisher@nzgeographic.co.nz or on 09 913 9623.

What is NZGeoVR?

New Zealand Geographic has been producing local 360-VR content since 2016, and now leads the world in VR production, particularly underwater. Since 2017 Blake Trust has delivered 246,000 VR experiences to students. Check out the video of Kowhai Intermediate above to see how this content is received.

The VR videos are available to libraries through the NZGeoVR EPIC subscription option. You supply the Oculus Go headsets, we supply the content and classroom control technology that allows an educator to play the same VR experience to up to 120 headsets at once from a computer or mobile.

Experiences include flying over Mt Taranaki, swimming with humpback whales, visiting the steaming caldera of Whakaari/White Island or plunging into a limestone cave. See more details in the PDF infosheet or preview the experiences here.
