Long before Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, Jr, there was a great leader of peaceful resistance in Taranaki: Te Whiti. He led the people of Parihaka in non-violent protest against the illegal confiscation of their land.

Catching the giant wave

In May, a 19.4-metre wave was recorded in the Southern Ocean. A group of surfers tracked it for a week as it approached the Otago coastline. Then they went for a surf.
