DIGITAL EDITOR ROLE

Kōwhai Media is looking for a social media savant with experience (like, real experience) socialising premium content in a strategic way to drive engagement. OUTLINE

The Digital Editor role at Kōwhai Media covers a diverse set of tasks including social media, digital marketing and writing across three digital properties—the New Zealand Geographic website and streaming television service, Pro Photographer apps and Mana website.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, engaged, motivated and flexible media specialist with an interest in editorial media, photography and communication to socialise, optimise and monetise the online presence of all three properties across familiar channels—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram—and to niche audiences in smaller digital circles such as the N4L Pond, photographic industry bodies and EDMs. The role requires an understanding and enthusiasm for digital marketing as well as an ability to echo the themes of a longform piece in a snappy standfirst to appeal to an online audience.

While the role is primarily focused on promoting, managing and marketing material produced by the editorial team, the digital editor will work closely with the editor of each title to keep a finger on the pulse of trending conversations and the daily news-cycle to respond intelligently and rapidly to promote existing digital assets and commission bespoke stories, moving the public conversation forward. This will also require coordination with the marketing lead to identify opportunities and meet goals for engagement and site traffic.

The role comes at a time when we are rolling out a complete over-haul of the New Zealand Geographic website, which includes a streaming television service, a new content management system and promoting a suite of apps on the Pro Photographer title internationally. The digital editor role will be at the centre of this change.

As the role is working across the company, with the editors of each title, and benefiting from the cross-pollination of ideas in the editorial office, the successful candidate will need to be based in the Kōwhai Mediia offices in Britomart, Auckland. For more information, contact James Frankham 021-775423
