A massive deep sea squid caught near Whakaari/White island is the subject of much scientific excitement today.

A group of marine experts gathered in Auckland for the dissection of the rarely caught cephalopod – the class of molluscs that includes cuttlefish and octopus.

RNZ reporter Jean Bell and visual journalist Dan Cook went along to see the creature.
