Next month marks the anniversary of the eruption of Mount Tarawera near Rotorua. Heard in Blenheim and Auckland and felt as far afield as Christchurch, the 1886 eruption is still one of the largest ever to occur in this country. Two of the survivors, Willy Bennett and Roger Delamere Dansey, recorded their memories of that horrifying night.
