Study traces Haast eagle back to Australia

A new study on the largest birds of prey that ever lived in New Zealand traces them back to Australia. The giant Haast eagle, which used to prey on Moa, shares a common ancestor with a tiny Australian eagle. It’s a similar story with the world’s largest harrier, the Eyles harrier. But they grew be giants after two million years in New Zealand. Dr Michael Knapp is the author of a new study on the birds of prey.
