Questions asked about Waimea dam – as projected cost skyrockets

Why is the government’s Fresh Water Improvement fund being used to help build the Waimea Dam in the Tasman District? Kathryn Ryan talks to Peter Fraser, a former Treasury economist, who is questioning the dam’s skyrocketing cost, and the taxpayer’s involvement; also Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne, who is pro the dam build. He says he can’t understand why people are quibbling, when the region gets 42 million dollars of low cost government money. The dam has been described by the council as the most important single infrastructure investment the Tasman community will make.
