NASA attempts to land robot on Mars

On Tuesday (NZ time) NASA will attempt to land a robotic probe on Mars. The InSight lander is the first mission to be dedicated to investigating the rocky world’s internal structure. But first the probe must first survive what’s called the “seven minutes of terror” – the time it takes for a probe entering Mars’ thin atmosphere at hypersonic speed to slow to walking pace and gently put itself on the ground. Dr Thomas Zurbuchen from NASA says that despite landing numerous probes on the planet – it’s still an extremely difficult task.
