Pauanui Beach in the Coromandel closed for a period on both Saturday and Sunday, after reports of shark sightings.

A woman was fatally attacked by a shark while swimming at Waihi Beach, about 70 kilometres south of Pauanui, last Thursday.

Te Aniwa Hurihanganui spoke to Allan Mundy, Surf Lifesaving New Zealand’s national search and rescue manager.
