Mangrove removal linked to decline of fairy terns

Scientists studying fairy terns at Mangawhai now suspect the bird’s decline may be linked to the removal of mangroves in the harbour. The critically endangered birds have had a disastrous breeding season, in part due to stormy weather in spring. But the scientists say their food supply may also have been hit by the mangrove removal. Lois Williams reports.
