How Alzheimer’s spreads in the brain

Alzheimer’s disease effects more than 40 million people worldwide and despite decades of study there have been few advances in treatment.

But groundbreaking new research has been able to identify a key protein which causes nerve cell death in the Alzheimer’s brain – which could lead to a cure for the debilitating disease.

The study’s author Thomas Cope, from the University of Cambridge, says his team looked past what causes Alzheimer’s, to how it spreads.
