Crowds march against Significant Natural Area plan in Far North

More than 40 years after her mother’s march to Parliament, the daughter of Dame Whina Cooper is leading calls to abandon the reclassification of huge amounts of land in Te Tai Tokerau.

About 1500 people marched on Council offices in Kaikohe today, where staff have pushed pause on Significant Natural Areas plan following massive backlash.

While it’s given some relief – marchers today demanded they be scrapped all together.
