Citizens flee Goma due to second volcano eruption fears

Fears of a second volcanic eruption near Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have led to another mass exodus from the city.

Tens of thousands of people are evacuating – many on foot, others in cars creating a logjam – days after the Nyiragongo volcano erupted at the weekend, killing more than 30 people.

Tremors and aftershocks have intensified since that eruption and there are fears toxic gases from neighbouring Lake Kivu will become deadly.

Alain Uaykani, a journalist with Aljazeera English in DRC, spoke to Corin Dann.
