Close to 100 people are handing an eviction notice to the Austrian oil giant OMV at its Majestic Centre headquarters in Wellington.
The action, organised by Oil Free Wellington and other groups, follows the protest action two weeks ago by Greenpeace activists, who scaled the side of the building to reach the company’s offices on the 20th floor.
They also put up banners on the side of the building against permits that allowed OMV to undertake exploratory drilling off the Taranaki Coast and in the Great South Basin.
Greenpeace spokesperson campaigner, Steve Abel, said the eviction notice had now been signed by 30,000 people.
He said OMV plans to drill the habitat of many rare and endangered species, including dolphins, whales, penguins, albatrosses, seals and sealions.
Mr Abel said if OMV refused to relinquish its permits here, it could expect resistance every step of the way.
